The 4th
Dover Open took place at the Whitfield Club on Saturday 24th,
with a bumper record attendance, 106 players in the main
open, 29 in the Youth and 14 in the ladies.
Due to the
large attendance the prize fund was increased by a further
£150, with increases going to the runner up from £250 to
£300 and the semi finalists picking up £100, an extra £50
each, meaning a total of £1100 was paid out.
The main open
winner was Richie Howson of Essex, who beat Dover’s Lee Ware
6-1 in the final.
Richie Beat
Dave Heath, Matt Austin, Andy Clark, Paul Hale, Barry Knight
and Steve Douglas in his tough route to the final, losing
just the five legs all day.
Lee’s route
was also tough, beating Geoff Bradley, Alan Kartreiber,
fellow Dover player Jim Penman, Matt Wadduops, Bob Linton
and finally Lewes Venes, younger brother of Wayne Venes.
Lewes had a
great day in the youth as well, losing in the final against
Ben Songhurst 3-2. Ben picked up £100 as the winner with
the youth competition paying out a total of £190 with thanks
to Advantage Catering Equipment guaranteeing the first
prize.
The ladies
event was won by former Dover Landlady Ged Carney beating
Lauren Stacey 3-1. The first prize of £100 was also
guaranteed, this time by our S&P Brisley. The ladies
competition prize fund was £150.
The Dover
Invitation Darts League Committee would like to thank the
Whitfield Club for their continued support of this event as
main sponsor, this year in conjunction with Worthingtons.
Looking
forward to next year already
