100 Players from across
Kent, Susses and Essex were welcomed to the Whitfield Club
for the third Dover Open and Paul Dawkins from Herne Bay won
a fantastic final 6-5 against Scott Marsh.
Paul has shown great form
in Dover in the past, losing in the final last year to Steve
Douglas, this year he went that one step further, claiming
the £500 first prize.
Pauls route to the final
saw him start with a 3-2 win against Bob Fuller and then he
that up 3-0 win against local league player Craig Morton.
Andy Howell, a former
super league team mate of Pauls was up next and he beat him
3-1. In the last 16 he beat Rob Card by the same margin.
In the quarter finals the
format changed to best of seven legs. Paul faced Ross Lowe
who beat one of Dovers finest, Ritchie Buckle, in the previous round 3-0. However,
Paul was on super form and beat him 4-1 to reach the semi
finals.
He then went on to beat
Danny Russell 5-2 in the semi final.
Scott also had a tough
route, in a strong field of players. He started with a 3-1
win against Michael Finch and then a 3-0 win against Craig
Watkins. Next up in the last 32 was Dean Owen and Scott
reached the last 16 with a 3-1 win.
Another 3-1 win, this time
against Rob James put him through to a quarterfinal match
with Richard Howson. A 4-2 victory set up a semi final
match against Mr Consistent Bob Linton, which Scott won 5-2.
In the ladies Open,
eventual winner was Stella Loftus. She ran out 4-2 winner
in the final against her Mum, Val Morris. Stella received
the £100 guaranteed first prize which was sponsored by Darts
World.
Sam Fuller won the Dover
Youth Open, beating Mark Gallacher 3-0 in the final. Sam
didnt drop a leg all day in the youth and ran out a clear
winner on the day. He received £100 first prize which was
donated by S&P Brisley.
