WINTER 2008 to SUMMER 2009

Nigel Donkin of the Pilgrim Hospice came to the Diamond on Friday 20th November to collect the cheque for the summer collection, which was for £1044.64.

A fantastic effort by all the teams in the league, but special mention does go to the two Diamond sides and the Landlord and Landlady of the Diamond, Ali and Di.  The Diamond raised the most this season, £280.84 and retained the trophy that they have now held for the last three seasons.

Along with the winter 08/09 season in total the league has raised £1760.64 for the Pilgrims Hospice.  The Charity was chosen after the league lost one of its great characters, Calvin Chaplin to cancer in 2008.  For the next year the league will continue to support the Pilgrims Hospice along with the Prostate Cancer UK Charity.

So keep up the good work and lets see if we can reach £2000 over the next year!

Gareth Morgan and Albert Kemp work hard by collecting the boxes, but my little girl Chloe comes with me. I have never seen a little girl get so many free cans of coke and chocolate bars,  I wonder why she like helping!!

Dover Friday Night Invitation Darts League Supporting the Pilgrims Hospice.

Pilgrims Hospices is the principal provider of specialist palliative care in east Kent. They care for patients with a range of life limiting illnesses including cancer, heart failure, respiratory conditions and neurological diseases. Care is provided from our three sites in Canterbury, Ashford and Thanet.
To keep delivering care to those that need it the most, Pilgrims has to raise over £7.5 million each year. Please remember your charity box.

Update of the 2007-08 Collection.

Children visiting Carousel Ward at Buckland Hospital have been missing their four legged friend. The rocking horse was donated over 25 years ago by Pam Goodwin from Whitfield and after years of grateful use was greatly in need of

care and repair. Now, resplendent with a new coat and mane he is back, much to the delight of some 50 young patients and thanks to the generosity of the Dover Invitation Darts League who raised the funds for the restoration.

A new look deserves a new name, and when he was unveiled by Megan Wellsted and Victoria Austen, he was given the name Sparkle, chosen by Megan.  Angela Wellsted, Megan’s mother told us how pleased she is to see the horse back and explained what a focal point he has become to her daughter over the years.

Megan (15) has been coming to Buckland since she was 18 months old and the calming influence of the rocking horse has helped her through many difficult times.

Whilst hospitals can be daunting places for children, at Carousel Ward the horse has become a friend to share their experiences with.
