RITCHIE BUCKLE BEAT KEV BEASLEY 3-1 TO RETAIN HIS SINGLES TITLE

71 players made their way to the Whitfield Club on Friday the 4th September to compete for the Dover Invitation Darts League annual Singles Title.

The night was combined with the presentation night for the Summer League campaign, with many more people packing the venue to make a cracking atmosphere on the night.

The eventual winner was Ritchie Buckle of the Hairy Bull, who beat Kevin Beasley of the Bricklayers 3-1, a result that meant that Buckle retained his title that he won 12 months a go.

So how did they reach the final?  Buckle started the night in cracking form beating Mark Comley of the Sportsman 2-0, finishing in less than 16 darts in both legs.  The second round Ritchie beat Paul Martin of the Diamond by the same margin to set up a last 16 match against Billy Bell of the Bull B.

Bell was the first player on the night to take a leg of Buckle, however a rampant Buckle won 3-1 to reach the quarter finals.

Wayne Venes of the Diamond was next up for Ritchie, Wayne was also in super form, hitting two 180’s in his previous games.  He carried his form on, taking the first leg only for Ritchie to fight back and win 3-1 again.

One of last weeks pairs winners, Del Palmer of the Bull A followed last weeks super effort with a semi final place in the singles, but this week the final was one step for Del Boy, as Buckle beat him 3-0 to reach the final.

Kev Beasley’s route to the final started with a 2-0 win against Kevin Green of the Diamond and then a win by the same margin against Luke Blythe of the Admiral Harvey.

In the last 16 Beasley met Jeff “Bubbles” Such of the Red Lion, and won 3-0 to book his quarter final place against his team mate James Warr.

James hit a 180 during the match, but Kev’s super finishing on the night guided him through to the semis with a 3-1 win.

Next up was Kevan Hackett of the Bull A, who was also in good form, beating team mates Ash Battie and Ben Tester on route.  Beasley ran out 3-1 winner, to set up a battle against Buckle for the title.

Buckle was in awesome form, consistently hitting the treble and won the first leg.  Beasley thought back to make it 1-1 after Buckle missed three darts at 32.  Buckle wasn’t going to make the same mistake and went on to win the game 3-1.

Buckle retained hit title and took the improved prize fund of £150.
